Soles4Souls (www.giveshoes.org), the international shoe charity announced Sunday on the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina at a joint press conference with Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour that they will provide long-term assistance to Mississippi Cares International and several of its current community projects. On a local level, Soles4Souls announced it will provide shoes and clothing to the residents of the newly opened Oregon Place apartments in Biloxi, Mississippi, a development of 2 bedroom units for homeless families. Soles4Souls will also provide shoes to the clients of the Marsha Barbour Community Center.

Mississippi Cares International also unveiled their plans to extend their efforts internationally through projects in Haiti and Sudan. Soles4Souls has continued providing relief to the devastated country of Haiti by donating more than 1 million pairs of shoes to the area and will donate shoes and clothing to MCI for their efforts in both countries.

"Soles4Souls has been committed to helping residents rebuild their lives since Katrina five years ago, and in that time we have distributed more than 1.3 million pairs of shoes to the folks in the Gulf," said Wayne Elsey, Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls. "We are pleased to continue that support with our friends at Mississippi Cares International through their projects in Mississippi and abroad.  We have learned that a simple pair of shoes can bring an individual hope for a brighter day."
